Big wind last night. We had a 47 mph gust at 3:46AM. That one woke me up.

It's been especially windy here today. Not complaining! It was warm and sunny today:-)
The March winds seem a bit early.

Mon Late Evening
We never made it above freezing today but the solar radiation melted most of the snow. High pressure, bright and clear.

Sat Early Evening
We got about an inch of snow in Oldham County. It didn't stick to the roads so I call this a great snow!

Wed Early Afternoon
The sun has come out ahead of this front so there's a good chance we'll get some severe weather later. Thunderstorm warnings already west and south along with a tornado watch south of us.

We have a serious problem with maintaining power to the main sensor unit. I'm going through lithium batteries like candy even though the main power is supposed to be provided through the solar cell. I thought I had solved this problem after finding a broken connection, but it's continuing. Will need further diagnostics and repair. Until then, if you see "0" readings, be patient until can replace the main battery.

A stroll on the front porch showed a steady breeze with mild to cool temps (54 degrees.) We're expecting some violent weather tomorrow, but there's nothing physically observable that confirms that. The scientific evidence, however, is more obvious. My own instruments are showing lightning to our west, a falling barometer and high dew points. Couple that with the NWS warnings, tornados in the midwest and it's obvious we need to be cautious.

Sun Mid Morning
Excitement here. Bird song is in the air. And a mating pair of Bluebirds have entered the bird house. Huge flocks of geese spotted yesterday. Winter is on wobbly legs.

We're already above freezing and heading to the mid to upper 40's. Hard to believe we could see 60 tomorrow.

Wow - a real warm-up on the way. Can't wait to feel even a tiny spring preview. Won't be long now. Winter still has a punch -- but he's goin' down!

Many power drops today. On generator for awhile. Looks like neighbors on Smith Lane and hills behind us finally have power. Cold night ahead.

Looks like the heavier snow will stay north of us tonight and tomorrow.
My favorite weather saying I attribute to my late friend, Bill Petrie - "February breaks the back of winter."
Let's pray it's true. Current forecasts show above normal temps for February.

Mon Early Evening
We had a power outage at 5pm today. By the time my neighbors and I got our generators running the power came back on. Shortly after 6pm, I think. The winds are kicking up and got up into the 20 - 25 mph range late this afternoon, so it could be that some more limbs fell. Or, perhaps, they need to kill our juice for awhile when they're hooking up other people. I reported this one to LG&E as soon as it happened. Not that it made any difference, but it can't hurt. I heard that we shouldn't assume that they know about the problem.
The folks behind us on Smith Lane and the homes on the hills behind us are still running generators.
I know some of you are old enough to remember the 1974 tornado. I vividly recall how important AM radio stations like WAVE and WHAS were during that period. (I was working at WAVE.) Vital information was on 24 hours a day. I truly pity people sitting in cold houses looking for some local information and an understanding voice and all they hear is political garbage and other junk. Local radio has failed to serve their communities.

A beautiful, warm day. Abundant melting. Plants have returned to normal positions. Can still hear the sound of generators behind us.
